Center Stage Dance Academy

Recital Illustration

Summary

Art and design have played a major role throughout my life, even before pursuing a graphic design degree at Madison College. My home town dance studio, Center Stage Dance Academy, voted and selected my illustration work to be displayed for 2019’s recital branding as t-shirts and recital program covers. The design later developed into a studio pylon sign. I incorporated the studio’s original lettered ‘CSDA’ design, mimicking the same rhythmic tone with dancers’ shoes and the illustrative elements that form around them. I was motivated to create a piece that felt more inclusive for students by incorporating multiple forms of dance - jazz, ballet/pointe, and tap.

I felt this piece was important to highlight because it’s where my design journey started, and it plays a functional role for the community. It created an identity for the recital and for the dancers who are proud to be apart of CSDA. It played a part in recital promotions, local parades, and on the shirts of dancers walking the halls of their high school. I find satisfaction in graphic design because it exists in the real world, serving a purpose by bringing closeness and connectivity to people and their passions.
